Frequently asked questions

What is a rapid, semi-quantitative urinalysis?

A rapid, semi-quantitative urinalysis detects various substances in urine such as haemoglobin, protein and glucose. Compared to a screening test that can only differentiate between negative and positive, semi-quantitative urinalysis can provide a rough estimate of how much of the substance there is. However, only a quantitative test in a laboratory can tell you the exact amount. Due to the cost and time it takes to use quantitative tests for urinalysis, veterinary practices and veterinary clinics very rarely use them for routine check-ups.

Can I reuse components of the test kit?

No, the kit components can only be used once for both cats and dogs. There are two reasons for this: firstly, the embedded urine test strips are single use, and secondly, washing out the cup or reusing the cat litter runs the risk of leaving urine traces, which would impact the result if the same cup/litter was used again. Our test kits are made from 98% organic materials to minimise our environmental footprint.

Can I try the scan and analysis functions with an unused cup?

No. Unfortunately, an unused cup cannot be used to test the scan and analysis functions. The cup with an embedded urine test strip must only be removed from its packaging just before you intend to use it, otherwise moisture will cause the parameters to change colour, and they will lose their accuracy.

Does the test work without the app?

The test only works in combination with the Pezz app as the app scans and analyses the urine test for you. The Pezz app is for scanning and analysing the test. Every result is reviewed by our experts within a few hours and displayed automatically in your app.

Which devices and software versions are supported?

All devices running Android 8.0 Oreo or iOS 12.0 and newer are supported.

What do the results tell me?

The result in the Pezz app shows you which levels are normal, slightly abnormal or abnormal. Each result includes a more detailed description. In addition, the overall test results are used to give you a vet recommendation that will tell you exactly what you need to do.

Why is Pezz offering its urine test kits for pets as a subscription service?

Vets recommend that cats and dogs be tested four times a year even if they appear completely healthy. These tests are designed to be be performed alongside routine check-ups with the vet to detect kidney disease, urinary tract disorders and diabetes long before the first symptoms start to show.
With the subscription service, you’ll receive a year’s worth of urine test kits and be given regular reminders to test your pet, so everything is taken care of for you.

FAQs about the Urine Test Kit for Dogs

What makes the Pezz Urine Test kit different from the usual urine test strips?

Firstly, it’s by far the simplest and most hygienic way of collecting a urine sample in the history of urine tests. Secondly, the sterile testing cup stops the sample from becoming contaminated, which is one of the most common causes of inaccurate results. Our app’s digital analysis enables us to see the context of the parameters and give you recommendations based on real data. Of course, you can view the results any time in your app.

Why should I regularly test my dog’s urine?

Kidney and urinary tract disorders usually stay undetected for a long time. For example, by the time the first symptoms of CKD start to show, 70% of the kidneys have already been damaged. Our ISO-certified urine test strips enable you to spot signs of kidney and urinary tract disorders as well as diabetes from the urine sample, long before dogs start to feel pain and show symptoms.

How can I train my dog to let me perform the test?

If your dog doesn’t like to be disturbed when going for a pee, and the urine test isn’t urgent, you can prime your dog for the test using our training guide.
1. Put your dog on a lead. Approaching your dog too quickly or touching your dog while it's peeing often causes the dog to stop. If you have your dog on a lead, then it establishes a set distance between you two.
2.It's also worth rewarding your dog as often as possible if it trains well. When you next go for a walk, approach your dog slowly as soon as it looks like it wants to pee. Then give it a small reward!
3.Always bring along the handle during the training phase and keep showing it and holding it out to your dog. Gradually bring the telescopic handle closer and closer over time until it touches the dog. Don't forget to reward your dog once this is done! The aim is to get your dog used to the handle and cup.

FAQs about the urine test kit for cats

What if my cat is very fussy about cat litter?

No problem! Our special, non-absorbent litter is made from natural materials, and we developed it with such sensitivities in mind. We tested it with numerous sensitive cats, and 90% of our four-legged testers were happy to do their business with our litter on the first go. Here are a few tips on how to speed things up if you have a particularly fussy cat:
Empty the litter tray, clean with water and leave the tray liner. But be careful: don’t use any cleaning agents as their chemicals can interfere with the test.
Give your cat some time to get used to the litter in peace. Constantly monitoring can stress the cat out.
Be patient! After all, this is a new experience for your cat.
The litter tray should be the only place where your cat can do its business.
